6 Best Places to Eat in Coventry

After getting tired of the bustling life in London, I moved to Coventry to move closer to my loved ones and honestly, there isn’t much to do except indulging in good food. After spending a year in Coventry and tasting almost everything off Uber Eats, here are some of my favourites that I keep going back to.

P.S. This is not a sponsored post and it is not listed in any particular order. Happy reading!

Summary:

  • Pizza Go Go

  • Wing Trapp

  • Chaye Khana

  • JianBing Hut

  • YiPin Bashu

  • Royal Cha

Pizza Go Go

If you’re looking for a good ol’ pizza place to deliver some supper to your doorsteps, then just order from Pizza Go Go. I actually found out about this franchise when I lived in Bristol, and it was located right next to my university dorm.

It’s quick, cheap and taste maybe better than Domino’s. I also like to order the wings to pretend i’m having a balanced meal.

WingTrapp

If you’re looking for some good fried chicken, I recommend ordering from WingTrapp.

I think I probably tried almost all the wing stops on Uber Eats, and this was the best in Coventry. The chicken is saucy and juicy, while the fries were seasoned and still crispy. If you ever ordered delivery for fried food, you know that it’s a real struggle to keep it crunchy.

Chaye Khana

When I first noticed Chaye Khana, I thought it looked a little sus, not gonna lie. However, after trying it the first time, I was blown away and couldn’t stop myself from going back. It’s to the point that they even recognise my boyfriend and I whenever we walk in and know exactly what we’d like to order: a Chicken Tower Burger set meal with the drink upgraded to a Karak Chayi (i.e. a milky spiced tea).

Apart from our go-to meal, there was a couple other dishes that I also liked:

  • Fried Chicken Wrap - A fried chicken freshly cooked in a huge wrap, and

  • The Menemen Breakfast - It taste basically like a yummy pizza but minus the dough and it’s in a pan with some bread on the side.

JianBing Hut

JianBing Hut is located closer to Warwick compared to Coventry but it still delivers to those who live in the city centre via Uber Eats.

I recommend only ordering it online, since the restaurant is mainly designed for takeaways. I tried going to the restaurant once, and you can tell it’s been a while that they had a dine-in customer.

Their specialty dish is Jian Bing as their name suggests and they also serve different asian rice and noodle dishes. My go-to order is the Chicken Jian Bing and their Chicken Salad. It’s so good, large portioned and different to typical asian restaurants in the best way possible, you won’t regret it!

Jian Bing is a traditional Chinese street food which is basically a savoury crepe that typically includes egg, bao cui (i.e. deep-fried crackers), and a bunch of different sauces and meat. They also offer a vegan option where they remove the egg, and replace the meat with shredded tofu.

YiPin BaShu

This is a dine-in and cash-only Chinese restaurant in Coventry. It’s located close by the big Sainsbury that’s next to the bus station.

My favourite dish is the fried aubergine in sea spice sauce, which is the perfect aubergine texture that just melts in your mouth and it’s more on the sweet and spicy flavour.

I would normally order dishes to share with some rice on the side which may cause it to be more expensive per dish, but the portion is huge to make up for the price and you can always just ask to takeaway any leftovers.

Royal Cha

I’ll be the first to admit that you won’t get any fancy Japanese food from here but it’s an oddly comfort food stop for me.

I love getting the customisable poke bowl since I’m quite picky with my toppings and it’s about the same price anyways compared to ordering a set poke bowl.

Apart from that, I often order the Classic Set For One sushi set. It includes 12 pieces of a tempura prawn and avocado roll and 8 pieces of salmon and cucumber rolls. Like I said, it’s not amazing but more comforting than anything for some reason and it’ll fill right up.

They also sell bento boxes which are heavy on the meat and light on the rice which we all love since you could very easily eat two meals from one of them.

BONUS

Here’s a sneaky 6th restaurant recommendation for all of you who read all the way to the end!

Alley Food and Mood

It’s another Chinese restaurant which you can order from via Uber Eats. While they serve a variety of dishes, the main thing I LOVE to order is their Xiang Guo a.k.a. dry hot pot.

As the name suggests, it’s a pot of your favourite ingredients which you’ve selected, similar to how you cook hot pot but instead they’ll cook everything for you and it’s normally served as a stir fry with some level of spice. In this restaurant, there’s a set level of spice and it’s really spicy but so addicting. I recommend just preparing a bottle of milk next to you, cut some cucumbers and feast while crying happy tears.

The cost of each item you add into the pot will add up, so I recommend sharing with a friend but the portion will also increase accordingly.
